On November 28, 2005, Enrique Gonzalez walked across the border to pursue a safe and prosperous life in the U.S. Afraid of gang recruitment in El Salvador and seeking to escape to a safe place with opportunities to work to help himself and his family, after two days of processing and detention, he was taken (by immigration officials) to a Texas bus station where he was left to find his way in what would become his new home, the United States of America. This Sunday, locally accomplished contemporary violinist - Cathy Morris will grace the stage at, "What about us? A Peaceful Resistance Rally for Immigration Reform." I'm talking BLOW OUT performances from some of the most amazing talent in the city! Presentations will be given by those most closely effected by family separations and immigration policy. Wear sunscreen, (if your bald like me, cover your head), dress cool, bring your refreshing beverage (it will be a 94-degree day), and your folding chair or blanket, and come enjoy a day of celebrating our American Immigrants and learning about some of the most painful challenges facing our nation as we look to address immigration reform head-on. Learn how you can be a part of the solution! Show starts at 1pm. Irvington Branch Library parking lot. Street parking is limited in the area so plan accordingly (Uber or Lyft).
